The Alzheimer Café in Farnborough was established in 2000 by Dr. Gemma Jones and Kandy Redwood, building on the work in the Netherlands started in 1997 by the Dutch clinical psychologist Dr. Bère Miesen. In 2008, a charity was set-up with the specific aim of promoting the development of additional cafes worldwide and supporting ongoing education and events within existing cafes.
